Public proclamation of Zhong Renjie

This document offers a typeset version of an 1842 proclamation (xiwen 檄文) issued by Zhong Renjie as the "Loyal King" (qinwang 勤王). This is taken from the 1991 Chongyang county gazetteer.

Glossary

遐邇 - xia'er - literally close and distant (geographically), often used to mean "all over the places".

康阜 - kang fu - tranquil and prosperous

科 - ke - the levy of taxes and corvee labor

鄭監門 -zheng jian men- the allusion is to Zheng Xia 俠, who presented a drawing to the court which showed the plight of commoners under Wang Anshi's 'big government' policy.

熟 - shu - who...? or carefully?

賈太傅 - Jia Taifu - Jia Yi (Western Han)

襄 - xiang - complete, finish
