Resources for Loss

“You’ve Reached Sam” by Dustin Thao, contributed by Kathy Hua (2023)

The book “You’ve Reached Sam” by Dustin Thao is about a girl in high school named Julia Clarke who loses her boyfriend, Sam, in a car accident. Shortly after his passing, she calls his phone, desperate to hear his voice again, and, surprisingly, he picks up. The rest of the book follows Julia as she navigates this new—but temporary—connection she has with Sam, and her struggle to move on from his death.

think many people can find comfort in this book because it explores the difficult process of gaining closure and rebuilding one’s life after loss. Additionally, I felt as though Julia’s story provided valuable insights into coping mechanisms, fostered empathy, and helped me better comprehend the universal yet uniquely personal nature of loss.
