We were well advised to heed the summer travel season. The river Tom is free from ice from May to November, and it flows swift and high now in the summer months. In the southwest quarter of the city is the only university in Siberia, founded not too long ago in 1888. Even as we pass through country that seems without end, we can see and feel the time passing. But then again the reminders of time long past, Princess Catherine forced to take the veil in 1742.
