Warsaw
Teeming with hotels (one for country gentlemen, one expressly and only for women-teachers) and restaurants, cafes, bars (of the respectable variety), and theaters (from opera to cabaret), all connected by electric tramways and old streets.
I made a few notes for myself, lest I miss some gem buried in the dozen pages devoted to the Polish capital:
- must visit the Hotel Brühl, which serves good Pilsner beer on draught
- must eat and drink wine at the Fukier restaurant, which has occupied the same quarters since 1590
- must frequent the confectionaries: Warsaw has good pastry and good coffee (a glass for 20 kopeks)
- must look out for special dairy stores, called mleczarnia, for a glass of "good milk"
- my only chance to go roller-skating in the Russian Empire (at the Vallée Suisse)?
