They are right. Life on the river banks looks to be worth living.The towns and villages arrest our attention through the charm of their colouring. The houses and the church cupolas are painted in gay tints, and form a striking contrast to the green trees and the white sandy banks. Monotonous marshy plains or sombre woods of pine and fir are followed by groves of limes and oaks, green meadows, and smiling fields, while these in turn give place to the endless steppes of the south.
