The Imperiia Project: a spatial history of the Russian Empire

Gorodetz

Baedeker says that this is not just a village, but "a straggling village" of 6,300.

Baedeker also says that these men and women take pride in knowing that the famous Alexander Nevski died here on November 14, 1263.

And that they occupy themselves producing wooden ware and honey-cakes (pryanniki).

Baedeker does not say whether the inhabitants of Gorodets were making honey-cakes in the 13th century, but I like to think that they were.
