Harvard Scalar Guide

Signing in / Signing up

How it works by default

By default, every Scalar account gets its own username and password. There is no integration with other login credentials.

How it works at Harvard

We've integrated Harvard Key into our instance of Scalar, meaning that you don't need to remember a new password for the service.

Signing up for the first time

To get started with Scalar at Harvard, the first thing you'll need is a registration key. If you have a fas.harvard or a college.harvard email account, you can fill out this request form and get the registration key emailed to you immediately. If you are an FAS affiliate with a different kind of email address, you can email atg@fas.harvard.edu to get this key, and then, once you've received it, you can go to scalar.fas.harvard.edu, then choose to "Continue with Harvard Key System". You'll be prompted for that registration key, and then directed to the Harvard Key login screen. Once you've logged in for the first time, you won't need that registration key again.

Signing in after you have an account

Once you're set up with an account, you won't need the registration key, you'll only need to click on "Continue with Harvard Key System" when signing in.

Adding authors without a Harvard Key

If you have external collaborators working on your Harvard-affiliated project, they can be added to the Harvard Scalar instance as well, but with a unique email and password combination (as in the default Scalar setup)
