And nothing is unendurable. Jane Hirshfield’s poem carried me through deep personal loss during the COVID pandemic. This poem’s final lines “The world asks of us / only the strength we have and we give it. / Then it asks more, and we give it” moved me forward, even when I thought I was unmovable.
