There were a lot of like really tangible ways for me to be a better leader for me to be a more compassionate and understanding educator and also a friend... I felt like I literally changed after five days, which I couldn't say I felt in any other experience.
- FOP leader
FOP leaders are trained over the course of about 40 hours of on-campus training and a nine day backpacking training trip. They have both technical skills for conducting activities safely in the outdoors and interpersonal skills for facilitating FOP curriculum, creating safe and inclusive spaces, and resolving conflicts. FOP leaders are the lifeblood of the program and personal leadership development opportunities for them are one of the primary goals of FOP.
