Black Radicalism

Free Prisoners and Free Breakfast: The Fight for Black Liberation

Our room examines various symbols of resistance and radicalism in the Black Panther Party movement. From self-defense and survival programs to freeing political prisoners and international activism, our room takes an in-depth look at the artifacts that shaped the political climate of the time. Under the Black Panther Party, Black people not only felt powerful, but they were powerful. There is strength in numbers and the Black Panther Party recognized this fact; members were unified on various fronts, ensuring that no member had to go through hardship or trials alone. The Black Panther Party as a whole was radical in its mere existence. The fact that it existed was a form of resistance against a white supremacist capitalist society. As our room showcases, the Black Panther Party was a party for the people, with the intent to empower what has arguably and historically been the most oppressed group of people in the United States: Black people. The Black Panther Party can be boiled down to one objective, one goal, and one word; it is a party that fends and fights for one thing: liberation. We hope that you are able to walk away from our room feeling empowered, liberated, and ready to continue the good fight!
