The Imperiia Project

Glossary

This limited glossary should come in handy in two scenarios: 1) we forgot to include a translation of a cryptic Russian term in one of our content pages (duh!), or 2) you see one of these terms on a map or other source and want to know what it means.

The glossary is limited and organic. (In other words, we will keep adding as we go!)

Hungry for more? Many of the definitions offered here are adapted - or straight out adopted - from the excellent list presented by the Doukhobor Genealogy Website. This link will take you to their glossary page. Scroll to the bottom for the full list of familial terms, archival terms, geographic terms, weights and measures, etc.
