The Mosaic Map
About the Mosaic
This mosaic contains 58 pieces drawn from 34 maps and illustrations composed between 1525 and 2025.Using the Map
- Click on any piece of the mosaic to find out where it came from and why it matters.- Use the "layers" button in the upper right of the map to explore additional content. We thought it would be interesting to "map" each of the text canvases to the sea mosaic. We arranged the canvases according to the number of increments (sentences) they contain, and assigned the largest number of increments to the largest available mosaic piece, etc. As a result, you can enable layers that allow you to see all of the canvases at once, visualizing either their genre or the number of years they have been in circulation (since composition).
- To take it one step further, enable the "increments" layer. Now you will be able to read each sentence against the backdrop of the mosaic.
