Lev Maksimovich would want you to remember this:The lake is mainly surrounded by high mountains and freezes between December and May (except for the area around the Angara). While shipwrecks are rare between May and September, at that point the winds become cruel. Winter passage on the ice runs for 30 versts, from Buguldejkhi in the north to the Posol'skii monastery in the south.
The lake is famous for its fish, including sturgeon, pike, omul, and seals.
