  This speaks to the fact that many people who attend HONK! just wander into it. They do not come with the intention of breaking norms; they simply enter a space with new norms. The HONK! festival is not necessarily for people with ideas and values identical to those of the performers. The space is open to all, and so different ideas end up confronting each other. People who have never seen this type of non-normative dress are experiencing it for the first time.
