Students in Service and Leadership at Harvard

Lewis's Story of Self

My name is Lewis and I am a sophomore in Cabot House studying Statistics. I currently serve on the board for Black Diamond Capital, a student-run hedge fund on campus.

BDC is a partnership of around 25 students committed to researching and debating theses that lead our rationale for investing in public equities and financial derivatives. Our team of senior leadership aims to promote a culture of thought-provoking debates and diligence that gives real-world investment experience to its members.

I joined BDC in the spring of my freshman year and have now served multiple roles within the group. I had just become interested in financial markets and was looking for something that really emphasized pitching and modelling. In BDC, I found much more than an elevated focus on creating quality pitches to invest in public equities, and found an entire community where I could learn from and grow with. I am currently the Chief Operating Officer, where I help oversee all the operations of the fund. My work can be broken down into three parts; the fund management (portfolio analysis, voting on pitches), internal growth (recruiting, training, team bonding), and external partnerships (sponsors, alumni relationships).

In addition to serving on board for BDC, I am also a member in the Harvard Financial Analysts Club and a peer tutor fellow at the Academic Research Center. When I'm not in class or in meetings, I love to play the piano and compete in intramurals. I enjoy basketball and esports and am an avid fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and Team Liquid.
