Resources for Loss

Barack Obama's speech at the funeral of John McCain (2018), contributed by Charlie Yang (2021)

I chose this item because I found it very powerful how, despite intense political differences, two people may have such respect for each other. I think that it speaks to how we can find meaning in unconventional relationships and indeed friendships, as well as the legitimacy of grieving for the death of those we are supposed to disagree with. Disregarding the external meaning behind the speech, I also think that the Eulogy itself is extremely moving. President Obama celebrates Senator McCain's life by speaking to his resilience, integrity, and courage in the face of war but also death.
